CARE & CLEANING
Crafted with the client in mind, our rugs are built to be lived on and last for years. Regular vacuuming with low suction protects the fibers, and professional cleaning by our in-house team every few years preserves their quality. Some shedding is normal at first due to leftover fibers, and any longer threads can be simply snipped to keep the pile even.
Materials

Wool
Wool rugs are durable, naturally resistant to stains and moisture, and rich in lanolin. Vacuum gently without a beater brush. For minor spills, use our spot cleaning method, and for larger accidents, rely on our in-house professional cleaning service.
Silk
Silk is strong but sensitive when wet. Address small stains with cold water and our spot cleaning technique, then brush fibers gently once dry. For more significant spills, our professional cleaning specialists should be consulted.
Alpaca
Soft, hypoallergenic, and long-lasting, alpaca rugs should be vacuumed without water. Remove debris with a wire brush in the direction of the pile, then wipe with a dry cloth. Major spills are best handled by our in-house cleaning service.
Cashmere & Mohair
These fibers are luxuriously soft yet resilient. They absorb liquids quickly, so vacuum regularly without a beater brush and treat spills immediately with our spot cleaning method. Allow the rug to dry flat and contact our in-house cleaning team for major stains.
Allo
Plant-based bast fibers that naturally vary in tone and texture. Vacuum or brush regularly on a low setting. Small spills can be cleaned with minimal moisture, and rugs should dry naturally in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat.
Plant Silk
This plant-based silk alternative offers a soft sheen and extra durability when blended with wool. Treat small spills with minimal moisture using our spot cleaning method, and never expose the rug to heat or ironing, which could damage the fibers.
PET
These recycled synthetic fibers are strong, stain-resistant, and suitable for indoor or outdoor spaces. Vacuum on a low setting with a hard surface attachment. Small spills can be rinsed lightly and dried flat; Performance Soumak rugs benefit from professional cleaning.
CARE

Vacuuming
Vacuum regularly using suction only; avoid beater bars or bristles. Move back and forth in the same direction and avoid the fringes. Once a week is ideal, or twice in high traffic areas. Occasionally vacuum the back as well.
Odors
For mild odors, sprinkle baking soda over the rug and let it sit for several hours or overnight before vacuuming thoroughly. Repeat if needed, and open windows or use fans for added ventilation.
Shedding
Some shedding is normal in the first months as excess fibers loosen from weaving. Regular vacuuming will reduce shedding over time and does not affect the rug’s longevity.
Tufts
If yarns loosen or sprout, never pull them. Use sharp scissors to trim to pile height, and snip any uneven fringes to keep a clean, even finish.
Fading
Though we use fade resistant dyes, all rugs soften slightly with age. Direct sunlight speeds this process, so rotate rugs regularly to keep color even.
Rotation
Rotate every 6–12 months to ensure even wear and preserve the rug’s shape. This is especially important in high-traffic areas or uneven spaces.
Pads
Use a rug pad to protect your floors, minimize wear, and prevent slipping. Pads also provide cushioning and can be trimmed to fit your rug perfectly.
Storage
When storing, roll the rug face in and wrap it in breathable, water resistant material. Keep in a dry, elevated space and avoid damp areas to prevent damage.
Moths
Moths are drawn to natural fibers and thrive in undisturbed areas. Regular vacuuming helps remove eggs and prevent damage. Avoid mothballs; instead, use cedar or lavender and contact a specialist if needed.
Repair
Handmade rugs can be restored if edges, ends, or tears occur. Professional repairs extend the life of your rug, and we are happy to recommend trusted restorers.
CLEANING

Scoop
For solid spills, gently lift excess with a spoon or similar tool before blotting. This prevents pushing the material deeper into the fibers.
Blot
Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth, never scrub. If needed, repeat using club soda or a mild wool detergent, working from the outside in. Use minimal moisture to avoid spreading or halos.
Dry
Press remaining dampness with a dry towel and let the rug dry naturally. Lift the rug off the pad if possible, to improve airflow and prevent mold or mildew.
Brush
Once dry, gently brush fibers with a soft-bristle brush in the direction of the pile to restore texture.
Professional Cleaning
For major spills or stubborn stains, we recommend our in-house professional cleaning service to safely restore your rug. Avoid harsh chemicals or steam cleaning, which can damage fibers.
